Not all mediators are equal…

But to advertise as an accredited mediator in Australia means to be trained and assessed under the National Mediator Accreditation System (“NMAS”). This process is a standardised training package, ensuring a standard level of competency. NMAS also ensures mediators complete continuing professional development bi-annually.

Completing a mediator training program. The first step is completing a mediator training program, which meets the requirements of the NMAS Approval Standards (Part I, Section 2.3). Nathan completed this training at Bond University.

Achieve competent grading in an assessed mediation. The next step is to achieve a competent grading in an assessed mediation, conducted per NMAS Approval Standards (Part I, Section 2.4). Nathan completed these assessments at Bond University.

Apply to a Registered Mediator Accreditation Body (“RMAB”). Following the assessment, and within six months, an aspiring mediator must apply to a RMAB. As a practising Barrister in Queensland, Nathan’s RMAB is the Queensland Bar Association.

Having name added to the national register. Once a RMAB has approved an application, a mediator will appear on the National Register where their name remains for two years.
